Doubts as a Path to Spiritual Growth

Shalom, dear brothers and sisters! Today we’ll discuss a topic that touches every believer—doubts in faith. We’ve all experienced moments when our faith was tested, moments when we asked ourselves, “Where is God in my life? Why is this happening to me?” And you know what? This is entirely normal. Even the greatest people of faith have gone through similar experiences.

Remember the story of Thomas, who said, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe” (John 20:25). Yeshua didn’t reject him for his doubts; instead, He lovingly appeared to him and allowed him to verify the truth of His resurrection.

Or recall the prophet Elijah. After the great miracle on Mount Carmel, when the Lord demonstrated His power, Elijah fell into despair and said, “I have had enough, Lord; take my life” (1 Kings 19:4). But God didn’t leave him in this state. He sent an angel to support and strengthen him for a new journey.

In Scripture, there are remarkable words from a father of a sick child who desperately turned to Yeshua: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24). This sincere prayer shows us that faith and doubt can coexist in the heart of a believer. And this does not make us any less worthy of God’s love.

Doubts are not the enemy of faith; rather, they are part of our spiritual growth. When we face them, we have a choice: to let them paralyze us or to use them as an opportunity to deepen our relationship with God. David, in his psalms, often expressed his fears and doubts, but always returned to the solid foundation of his faith. As he wrote, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me” (Psalm 23:4).

Dear brothers and sisters, remember the words from the Letter to the Hebrews: “Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1). Faith grows precisely through trials, questions, and the ongoing search for answers. And in this process, we draw closer to God, better understanding His character and His unchanging love for us.

May your doubts not become barriers, but rather stepping stones toward a deeper and more mature faith. God is greater than our doubts, and His love remains constant, even when we walk through the valley of uncertainty. May the Lord bless you and grant you peace!
