A Nation Like a Lion

In these days of spiritual and physical trials, it is especially vital to remember the words of Scripture that inspired the name of Operation “A People Like a Lion”—the campaign to neutralize the nuclear threat emanating from Iran. “A people rises like a lioness and lifts itself up like a lion; it will not lie down until it devours its prey and drinks the blood of the slain.” (Numbers 23:24) captures the unwavering determination and inevitability of God’s people

Balaam’s prophecy, pronounced even before Israel’s exodus, confirms that when God speaks, His word stands firm. Even if the prophet himself strayed from the Lord’s path, his declarations remained unchanged. “The lion that has arisen in might will not return until it has consumed its prey.” (Numbers 23:24) reflects the character of the chosen people called to stand guard over security and peace.

The example of Balaam reminds us to guard our inner motivations. He possessed the gift of blessing but, having turned to Mammon, lost his firm footing in God and became spiritually captive. Do not serve Mammon helps us keep our focus on the Creator and not be distracted by fleeting gains.

God’s blessing transcends all natural laws and mazal—the sway of circumstances and the stars. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3) reminds us that we stand above mere fortune and have access to the inexhaustible resources of the Almighty.

Yet the war we face is not fought only with machines and weapons. Invisible battles rage in the spiritual realm. As Archangel Michael stands watch over Israel, so our prayers and proclamations of God’s Word fortify the heavenly hosts in their victory over darkness.

Satan seeks the slightest gap in our faith and slips through any open door. Do not leave the door open to Satan is one of the most vital lessons we draw from Balaam’s life and the events of Numbers.

Each believer’s personal resilience is revealed in a readiness for spiritual endeavor and total dependence on the Lord. “…walk before Me and be blameless, that I may establish My covenant between Me and you and multiply you exceedingly.” (Genesis 17:1–2) shows that intimacy with God empowers and equips us for great deeds.

Our shared mission is not merely to hold our ground but to advance—encouraging one another in prayer and unity of heart. When we are united in worship, God’s angels are empowered to act among us, bringing divine protection and aid.

The lion does not retreat or surrender until it has finished its task, and we, united with Christ, stand as witnesses to this invincibility. Bearing this in mind, we press on toward victory, strengthening each other’s faith and hope.

Pray for Israel and for all brothers and sisters, especially those under hostile fire. Let us turn to the psalm: “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1) and “I will seek Your face, Lord; Your face I will seek.” (Psalm 27:8) may these words be our response in the hour of need.
